Project Logistics Success: Red Wolf Global and Freight Traders Ship Zephir 16-300 Lok Shunter
Red Wolf Global Pty Ltd is a leading project logistics services provider in South Africa. Working on behalf of and in collaboration with New Zealand based project cargo freight forwarding company, Freight Traders, Red Wolf Global was able to ship a Zephir 16-300 Lok Shunter from Durban RoRo Terminal in South Africa to the Port of Auckland in New Zealand. Both companies are members of the project logistics network, XLProjects Network (XLP).
The Zephir 16-300 LOK Shunter is a diesel-powered road and rail vehicle, originally manufactured in Modena, Italy, by Zephir S.p.a. The "LOK" stands for "locotractor," and it is highly versatile, suitable for a range of shunting and rail freight handling situations. The locotractor can be on and off-tracked in most areas in one quick and easy maneuver, and can even cross tracks to perform cross terminal movements quickly and efficiently. The locotractor weighed in at 29,000 kg and had a volume of 55.413 M3. The South African shipper was Versarail Locomotives.
Red Wolf Global subcontracted the crane work at the port to OneLogix, and together with Freight Traders, looked at all shipping options, ranging from breakbulk to RO/RO. In the end, it was determined that the best option was that the cargo be shipped with Höegh Autoliners as they had a very suitable service and their rate was by far the best. Red Wolf Global arranged a mobile crane to transport to loading on a MAFI trailer. MAFI roll/cargo trailers are used to transport various goods in maritime and industrial applications. Depending upon the application, a transport system can handle payloads of up to 250 tons.

Durban’s RO/RO (Roll on, Roll off) Terminal is located in the Durban Harbour precinct with direct access to road and rail, 50 km from Durban's King Shaka International Airport. The voyage from Durban, South Africa to Auckland, New Zealand was 7553 nautical miles.
The Port of Auckland is a container and international trade port on the Waitemata Harbour, lying on the central and eastern Auckland waterfront (north of the central city of Auckland). It is also the main RO/RO port for automobiles. Many of the wharves handle Roll-on Roll-off (RO/RO) vessels importing cars and other vehicles.
